Stiftung Warentest finds budget shampoo outperforms major brands
Stiftung Warentest evaluated 15 different volume shampoos to determine their effectiveness for fine hair. The testing revealed that a budget-friendly drugstore option priced at approximately 3 euros outperformed major established brands such as John Frieda and Pantene Pro-V.
Out of the 15 products tested, seven received a “good” rating for their ability to make fine hair appear significantly fuller. Experts note that effective volume shampoos should strengthen the hair at the root and improve structure without using heavy silicones or greasy ingredients that weigh hair down. Ingredients like plant collagen and bamboo extracts are cited as helpful for lifting hair fibers.
Regarding hair loss, experts suggest that while commercial shampoos containing caffeine, biotin, or aminexil can support hair growth and soothe the scalp, they have limited efficacy compared to medical treatments like minoxidil. Hair loss can be driven by stress, hormonal fluctuations, or genetics, and dermatologists recommend medical consultation to address underlying causes.
