Stiftung Warentest finds scarcity of high-quality olive oil

A recent study by Stiftung Warentest regarding olive oil quality reveals that high-quality options are becoming increasingly rare. Out of 25 oils tested, only four received a ‘good’ rating. The top-rated products included Cillo Mono Natives Olivenöl extra Coratina and Alnatura Bio-Olivenöl nativ extra, alongside Mitos Greek organic extra virgin olive oil and Bertolli Originale.

Many oils marketed as ‘extra virgin’ failed to meet standards, with several exhibiting rancid, musty, or muddy flavors. Furthermore, the testing identified significant safety concerns, as seven oils showed high levels of pollutants, including mineral oil contamination in three products.
