Stiftung Warentest ranks electric vehicle charging apps
Stiftung Warentest has released a comparative study of 14 charging apps used for electric vehicles. The evaluation focused on criteria such as user-friendliness, charging station search capabilities, reliability of charging data, and data protection.
EnBW Mobility+ was named the test winner with a rating of 1.7, performing flawlessly in practical tests. Other apps rated as ‘good’ include Maingau Autostrom (2.0), Plugsurfing (2.0), EWE Go (2.1), Allego (2.2), and Ionity (2.4).
The study suggests that EV drivers should consider downloading multiple free apps to compare prices and increase coverage, as different providers may offer different tariffs at the same charging station. While most apps support both normal and fast charging, apps from Tesla and Ionity are limited to fast charging only.
