Stiftung Warentest: Low‑Cost Dishwasher Tablets Beat Brand Names in Test

Stiftung Warentest evaluated 16 dishwasher cleaning products – 10 tablet formulas and six liquid caps – in its August 2026 issue. The assessment covered cleaning performance, rinsing, drying, scale protection, material safety, environmental impact and packaging. Cheap store brands emerged as the clear winners. The Aldi “Power Force All‑In‑One” tablet and Rossmann’s “Domol Ultra Power All‑In‑One” both earned an overall grade of 2.1, outperforming many premium brand offerings. Only two products met every test criterion.

The test also highlighted the first cap to receive a “good” rating – the Somat “Excellence Premium 5‑in‑1” – despite its higher price of about €0.20 per unit. In a related consumer‑goods comparison, a separate washing‑detergent test found discounter own‑brand powders, such as Everdrop, matching or surpassing well‑known brands like Ariel and Persil. Across both studies, low‑price retailer formulations proved to be effective and environmentally competitive.
