Stiko issues new vaccination recommendations for Covid-19, influenza, and RSV
The Standing Committee on Vaccination (Stiko) has issued new recommendations for the upcoming respiratory season, advising vaccinations against Covid-19, influenza, and RSV.
Regarding Covid-19, Stiko has shifted its guidance from recommending basic immunity for all adults over 18 to recommending booster shots for specific high-risk groups. These include individuals aged 75 and older, people aged 6 months and older with certain pre-existing conditions, pregnant women with specific health risks, and residents of care facilities.
Medical experts emphasize that while many cases are mild, Covid-19 is a multisystem disease that can affect the lungs, heart, and blood vessels, and may lead to long-term complications such as Long Covid.
