Moneris to be acquired by Francisco Partners for C$2 billion

Francisco Partners has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Moneris Solutions Corporation from the Bank of Montreal (BMO) and the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC). The acquisition is valued at approximately C$2.0 billion in cash, with BMO and RBC each receiving a 50 percent share of the proceeds.

As part of the transaction, long-term, exclusive customer referral agreements will be established between Moneris and both BMO and RBC. The deal is subject to customary regulatory approvals and closing conditions, with an expected completion by the end of the first quarter of the 2027 fiscal year.

Jeff Sloan, the former President and CEO of Global Payments Inc., will join the Moneris board as Chairman. Moneris, which serves over 325,000 points of commerce, intends to use the investment to accelerate its growth and innovation within the Canadian payments and fintech landscape.
