Stingray migrations near New York draw attention

Drone footage captured by Joanna Steidle shows massive, synchronized groups of stingrays swimming north near the coast of New York and New Jersey. The aerial recordings have gained significant attention on social media.

Experts suggest these migration patterns are linked to rising ocean temperatures. This species prefers water between 21 and 26 degrees Celsius; as waters warm, they move toward cooler northern waters. Such large gatherings near Long Island and Long Beach have become increasingly frequent over the last 25 years. Scientists warn that these shifts in migration and grouping behavior could have broader implications for the marine ecosystem.
