Stintino museum to host event on Tonnara restoration project

The Museo della Tonnara di Stintino (MUT) will host a public event on Saturday, September 19, at 7:00 PM to discuss the 1970s restoration project of the local tuna fishing buildings. The initiative focuses on how industrial structures designed for labor can be repurposed while preserving the spirit of the local fishing community.

The presentation will feature two primary witnesses: architect Giovanni Rebecchini, who designed the project, and engineer Renzo Solmona, who directed the construction. The event aims to provide complementary perspectives on the design and execution of the renovation. Attendees will view archival materials, including drawings, floor plans, and construction photographs.

The discussion will cover key aspects of the project, such as the initial commission, the original condition of the buildings, the guiding design principles, materials used, and the relationship between the architecture and the natural elements of sea and wind. The evening will include remarks from Stintino Mayor Rita Vallebella and an introduction by Carlo Conchedda, president of the La Tonnara di Stintino cultural association.
