STJ Minister Marco Buzzi Added to Sentence‑Sale Probe by Brazil’s Supreme Court
Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court (STF) authorized the inclusion of Superior Tribunal de Justiça (STJ) minister Marco Buzzi in the criminal inquiry that investigates a scheme to sell judicial sentences, known as Operação Sisamnes. The decision was signed by STF rapporteur Minister Cristiano Zanin.
The probe stems from a Federal Police operation that uncovered staff in STJ offices illegally accessing the electronic system used to draft vote minutes and selling the information to third parties. The Public Prosecutor’s Office has already charged nine suspects with organized crime, corruption, breach of professional secrecy and abuse of prestige. Buzzi, who was already suspended from his duties due to separate sexual‑harassment allegations, is now under suspicion for his possible involvement in the sentence‑sale network. His defense maintains that he is unaware of the investigation and has no connection to any family‑related cases.
The investigation continues under secrecy, with details of the allegations against Buzzi not disclosed to the public.
