Stjarnan seeks to move home matches to Miðgarður

Due to ongoing artificial grass replacement at Samsungvellur in Garðabær, the football club Stjarnan is seeking to move its upcoming men’s and women’s home matches to the Miðgarður multi-purpose sports hall.

KSÍ (the Football Association of Iceland) is currently reviewing Stjarnan’s application for an exemption, as the Miðgarður facility does not meet all standard KSÍ requirements for top-tier league play. Birkir Sveinsson, a KSÍ official, confirmed that the association is processing the request.

Eiríkur Stefán Ásgeirsson, director of the sports department at Sýn, expressed reservations regarding the move. While acknowledging the necessity of relocating matches when pitches are unplayable, Sýn noted that playing on unapproved venues is not an ideal solution, citing concerns over broadcast quality and facilities for staff.
