Stjepan Jimmy Stanić, jazz and entertainment legend, dies at 98

Stjepan 'Jimmy' Stanić, a legendary figure in the Croatian and former Yugoslavian jazz and entertainment music scenes, has passed away at the age of 98.

Born in Zagreb in 1929, Stanić enjoyed a career spanning over seven decades. While widely recognized as a singer with a warm baritone, he was also a skilled multi-instrumentalist who played the double bass, guitar, and tamburica. A notable moment in his early career occurred in 1956 when he performed with American jazz legend Dizzy Gillespie in Zagreb.

Stanić rose to fame with hits such as 'Kauboj Jimmy', 'Moja kobila Suzi', and 'Dimnjačar', the latter of which he performed with his wife, Barbara. He was celebrated not only for his musical talent but also for his unique stage presence, which combined music with humor and direct audience engagement. He continued to perform well into his nineties, most recently with the trio The Boys.
