STM begins construction of second Portuguese logistics support ship
STM Savunma Teknolojileri has reached a new milestone in its contract to provide maritime logistics support vessels for the Portuguese Navy. Following the commencement of construction for the first vessel, N. R. P. LUIS DE CAMOES, the keel-laying ceremony for the second ship, N. R. P. The ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, including the Commander of the Portuguese Navy, Admiral Nobre de Sousa, and the Turkish Naval Forces Commander, Admiral Kadir Yıldız. This project represents Turkey’s first military ship export to an EU and NATO member state.
Both vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2028. STM General Manager Özgür Güleryüz stated that the project is progressing according to the planned schedule, noting that the company is leveraging experience from 44 maritime platform projects across 11 different shipyards to support allied nations.
