STMicroelectronics launches mass-market automotive safety sensors
STMicroelectronics has announced a new set of automotive sensors designed to bring advanced safety and driver-assistance features to mass-market vehicles. The sensors combine multi-axis accelerometers and gyroscopes into a single package, providing a unified platform for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and Tier-1 suppliers.
The devices are intended for various safety functions, including crash protection, rollover detection, airbag deployment, vehicle stability controls, and radar beam stabilization. This launch marks the first set of mass-market products released following STMicroelectronics’ acquisition of NXP’s automotive and industrial MEMS sensors business in early 2026.
To support long-term automotive development cycles, the company has committed to guaranteeing product availability for at least 15 years, aiming to reduce redesign risks for manufacturers.
