Stânca-Costești water levels decline due to drought
Water levels at the Stânca-Costești hydrotechnical node are declining due to drought conditions and reduced upstream flow. Authorities report that the inflow is currently lower than the volume of water being discharged into the Prut River.
To protect water reserves and ensure a continuous supply for the population, the facility is operating under a reduced flow regime. Following a decision by the Moldo-Romanian Technical Operational Group, installations have been adjusted to maintain the minimum ecological flow downstream.
Additionally, repair works on the Stânca-Costești dam are approximately 80% complete. The 32 million lei project includes modernizing the piezometric monitoring system, working on bottom outlets and the energy gallery, and rehabilitating concrete plates to enhance infrastructure safety and stability.
