Stock exchanges in Maldives, Sri Lanka, and UAE expand market connectivity

The Maldives Stock Exchange (MSE) and Maldives Securities Depository (MSD) have introduced a new strategic plan for 2026–2030. Licensed by the Capital Market Development Authority since 2008, these institutions aim to expand the Maldivian financing ecosystem. The plan seeks to connect local businesses and investors with long-term capital through equity, corporate bonds, and sukuk, providing alternatives to the country's heavy reliance on bank lending amidst high public debt and foreign-currency pressures.

In a separate development, the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) and the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance capital market cooperation between Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates. The partnership aims to foster economic collaboration through the sharing of market expertise, exploration of cross-listing opportunities, and the promotion of bilateral investment. This initiative is intended to help rebuild investor confidence in Sri Lanka by connecting its markets to the Middle Eastern financial hub.
