Stockholm Pride Bars Sweden Democrats, Sparks Party Criticism

Stockholm Pride announced that the Sweden Democrats will not be allowed to take part in its parade, stating the party has not demonstrated support for LGBTQ+ rights. The decision has drawn criticism from other party leaders, notably Christian Democratic leader Ebba Busch, who said she does not share the Pride organisation’s assessment and called the exclusion regrettable.

Swedish Equality Minister Nina Larsson said all parliamentary parties should be invited to a public debate, emphasizing the value of diverse viewpoints in a democracy. Stockholm Pride chair Tasso Stafilidis reiterated that participants must have a record of defending LGBTQ+ rights and equal dignity for all. SD press chief Oskar Cavalli‑Björkman and think‑tank Oikos accused the Pride organisation of hypocrisy for claiming inclusivity while excluding one of the country’s largest parties.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has not yet confirmed whether he will attend the event, while other party leaders are expected to join the parade.
