Stockholm to host large-scale climate demonstration on August 23
A large-scale climate demonstration is scheduled to take place in Stockholm on August 23, with organizers expecting approximately 10,000 participants. The event, held under the slogan ‘united for the climate,’ involves a record number of over 200 non-partisan organizations, including Naturskyddsföreningen, Fridays for Future, Extinction Rebellion, and various labor unions such as TCO.
Local activists from the western Sicklaön area plan to join the march to specifically protest the development of Trolldalen. They are opposing a decision by the Alliance and the Green Party to allow Stockholms Kooperativa Bostadsförening (SKB) to construct approximately 200 apartments in the area. Protesters argue the construction contradicts sustainability goals and note that the decision was made despite 1,450 objections from residents and environmental advocates during the consultation process.
The demonstration will feature various artists and is being monitored by police to ensure public safety.
