Stolen bronze sculpture recovered in Hamburg-Harburg
The bronze sculpture "Trauerndes Kind" (Mourning Child) has been recovered in Hamburg-Harburg after being stolen approximately one year ago. The 90-centimeter-tall, 100-kilogram artwork by Hendrik-André Schulz was discovered at a scrap metal dealer on the Veddel.
Thieves severely damaged the piece, cutting and bending it in an attempt to make it unrecognizable. The Harburg district office plans to invest approximately 5,000 euros to restore the statue through the Edel und Stahl foundry. Investigators noted that while the thieves likely received only a few hundred euros for the metal, the artistic and symbolic value of the piece was significant. The perpetrators have not yet been identified.
