Stolen metal sturgeon sculpture recovered by magnet fisher
A three-meter-long metal sturgeon sculpture, created by artist Juul Baltussen, has been recovered after being stolen from a dike last summer. The artwork was discovered in August by a magnet fisher.
Baltussen, 68, noted that the thieves likely used a boat to reach the sculpture, as the location is inaccessible by car. The thieves had cut the sculpture's axles to remove it from its pedestal. Despite a low scrap metal value of approximately 30 euros, Baltussen is restoring the piece in his Westerbeek workshop.
To prevent future theft, the artist is installing a GPS tracker inside a recess at the bottom of the sculpture, allowing him to monitor its location via his phone.
