Stomatology 4.0: AI and robotics transform dental care
At the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy Congress, specialists discussed the emergence of ‘Stomatology 4.0,’ a shift driven by artificial intelligence, robotics, and digital design tools. These technologies aim to reduce procedure times and the number of required clinic visits.
One highlighted innovation is a robot designed to prepare teeth for ceramic veneers. According to researcher Dr. Giorgi Iliev, the robotic system can be five times more precise than a human hand. The software-calculated trajectory allows for laboratory work to be completed before the patient even arrives for tooth preparation, potentially eliminating the need for traditional impressions and the subsequent two-to-three-week waiting period.
The AI market in dentistry was valued at approximately $1.3 billion in 2025 and is projected to grow fivefold by 2033, according to Grand View Research data.
