Stone Brewing founders to reclaim Escondido landmark

Stone Brewing founders Greg Koch and Steve Wagner have announced plans to take control of the Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens in Escondido, California. The move comes just weeks before the landmark location was scheduled to close under its current corporate ownership.

The site at 1999 Citracado Parkway will serve its final guests under the Stone Brewing name on November 13. Following this, the venue is expected to reopen as an independently operated restaurant with a new identity and a beer program that showcases the broader craft brewing community. The reopening is pending approval from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control regarding required license changes.

Founded in 1996, Stone Brewing was a major influence in the craft beer movement, particularly known for its West Coast IPAs. The Escondido location, which opened in 2006, has served as a significant regional dining destination and tourist attraction, featuring tiered gardens and a full-service restaurant.
