Stop Hinkley campaigners protest nuclear waste storage
Anti-nuclear campaigners from the Stop Hinkley group staged a protest near the Hinkley Point power stations on the West Somerset coast to mark the 81st anniversary of Hiroshima Day.
The protesters raised concerns regarding the long-term storage of highly-reactive spent nuclear fuel at the site. Campaigners noted that because Sellafield is no longer accepting high-level waste and a geological disposal facility has yet to be established, radioactive waste may be stored on-site for at least 100 years.
