Store owner kills robber during attempted robbery at Sumaré mattress shop
On July 7, 2026, a 25‑year‑old man attempted to rob a mattress store on Avenida Rebouças in Sumaré, São Paulo state. He entered armed, held employees, and was confronted by the store’s owner, Vinícius Baumgartner, who holds a CAC firearm licence.
Baumgartner fired at the suspect, striking him three times; the suspect, identified as Guilherme Santos, later died at Hospital Estadual de Sumaré. The owner was wounded in the hand and treated at a local UPA, remaining in stable condition. Police say a second accomplice waited on a motorcycle and fled. The incident is recorded as homicide and attempted robbery, with investigators reviewing security footage while the owner faces no arrest, authorities citing self‑defence.
