Stork from Poland rescued injured in Evros

A young stork was rescued in the Evros region of Greece after being found injured by a passing couple. The bird, which was unable to fly due to a severe wing injury and was bleeding, was spotted on the roadside near the Egnotia – Ardani junction.

Members of the Thrace Biodiversity Protection Society and volunteers from the European Solidarity Corps responded to the scene to provide initial care. The stork was subsequently transported to the ‘Action for Wild Life’ organization in Thessaloniki, where veterinarians worked to stabilize its condition. The bird is currently recovering in a safe environment.

Identification through leg rings revealed that the stork had traveled approximately 1,650 kilometers from Rzeczyn – Wolin, Poland, where it had been ringed in July 2025. The data regarding its origin was shared with the Greek Bird Ringing Center.
