Storm Adam causes infrastructure and waste damage in Valencia and Alicante
Storm Adam has caused significant damage across the Valencian Community, particularly affecting agricultural infrastructure and public spaces. In Pego, within the Marina Alta region, torrential rains have destroyed dozens of rural roads, collapsed terrace walls, and damaged irrigation systems. Local farmers warn that the citrus harvest is at risk if access to farms is not restored quickly, as excess water in plots may damage the fruit. The Pego City Council has set a deadline of one and a half months to repair the affected routes.
In response to the flooding, the Generalitat has launched an extraordinary operation to manage the massive amount of debris generated. Approximately 5,000 tons of waste have already been removed from collection points in La Font d’en Carròs and El Campello. The cleanup effort involves 11 collection points in La Safor and five in Marina Alta, supported by around one hundred workers from the public company Vaersa and specialized private firms. The municipalities of Oliva and Els Poblets have reported the highest accumulation of materials.
