Storm and drug enforcement operations in Mannheim and Heidelberg
A severe storm caused widespread disruption across the Mannheim, Heidelberg, and Rhein-Neckar-Kreis regions. Between the afternoon of October 23 and the morning of October 24, 2026, the storm triggered 71 police interventions. Reported damage includes fallen trees blocking roads and walkways, uprooted trees, broken branches hitting parked vehicles, detached traffic signs, and fallen roof tiles. No injuries have been reported, though the total economic cost of the damage is still being assessed.
In a separate operation, police in Heidelberg conducted drug enforcement measures in the Kurfürstenanlage green space on October 19 and 20. Working under the ‘Sicher in Heidelberg’ security partnership, authorities initiated nine legal proceedings. Seized items included approximately 75 grams of marijuana, over 100 Pregabalin tablets, a small amount of amphetamine, two joints, a one-handed knife, and 625 euros in cash suspected to be proceeds from drug sales. Three cases were handled via accelerated proceedings, resulting in immediate fines.
