Storm Boelo causes widespread disruption across Belgium

Storm Boelo has swept through Belgium, causing significant infrastructure damage and requiring hundreds of emergency interventions. The storm, which met the official meteorological criteria for a storm with winds reaching at least 75 km/h, marks the second major weather event to hit the country within two days.

In Brussels, the storm caused serious public transport disruptions after a falling tree damaged overhead electrical cables. The damage forced the suspension of tram Line 44 between Montgomery and Tervuren, prompting the operator STIB-MIVB to deploy replacement buses. Repairs are expected to be complex due to the technical nature of the electrical damage and ongoing weather conditions.

Across the country, emergency services have been heavily mobilized. In Walloon Brabant, firefighters conducted 130 missions, primarily responding to fallen trees and blocked roads. Other regions, including DiNaPhi and Hainaut-Est, reported numerous calls regarding fallen trees and water infiltration in homes. While many interventions are ongoing, no serious injuries have been reported.
