Storm damage in Brazil prompts community and municipal relief efforts

Severe storms and hail have caused significant structural damage in parts of Brazil, prompting community and municipal relief efforts.

In Timóteo, the local government has begun distributing new roofing tiles to approximately 250 families in the Jardim Vitória neighborhood who were affected by a hail storm on September 16. The municipality is also providing mattresses, food baskets, and water to help the roughly 400 homes impacted by the weather. While waiting for state and federal funds, the city is utilizing its own resources and private donations to assist residents under a 90-day emergency decree.

Separately, Father Edvaldo Ferreira has launched the ‘400 Meters of Construction’ campaign to rebuild the Capela Nossa Senhora do Rocio after a violent storm destroyed part of its roof. The initiative seeks to raise funds through symbolic monthly contributions of R$ 10.00 per meter over a 12-month period to cover the costs of safe demolition and reconstruction.
