Storm damage reported in Volkel and surrounding regions
Storm Austen caused significant damage across the Netherlands, including an incident in Volkel where a tree fell onto a residential farmhouse on Wisselstraat. The impact created a large hole in the roof and damaged a rear conservatory. Emergency services, including the fire department, worked to saw the tree into pieces and remove debris using a crane, leading to the temporary closure of Venstraat.
No injuries were reported in the Volkel incident. Stichting Salvage has arrived at the scene to assist residents with aftercare and damage processing. Due to the breach in the roof, emergency measures are required to protect the interior from rain.
The KNMI issued a yellow code for the Brabant region as the storm moved from southwest to northeast. Beyond structural damage, the weather has highlighted the vulnerability of residential glasswork, with experts noting that upgrading to HR++ or triple glazing can mitigate issues like condensation and heat loss caused by storm-related damage or aging insulation.
