Storm Noul tracks toward East Vietnam Sea and Guangdong Province

Storm Noul is currently centered over the northeastern part of the East Vietnam Sea, about 510 km southeast of Hong Kong. Maximum sustained winds are 103‑117 km/h with gusts up to 149 km/h, and the system is moving west‑northwest at roughly 20 km/h.

Forecasts indicate the cyclone will approach the southern coast of China’s Guangdong Province by Sunday, intensify further with gusts of 150‑166 km/h, and make landfall there. It is expected to turn north‑northwest thereafter, weakening to a tropical depression by Monday and eventually becoming a low‑pressure area over Hunan Province.

Vietnam’s mainland is unlikely to be directly hit, but the northeastern waters of the East Vietnam Sea are expected to experience winds of 40‑60 km/h and waves up to 5 m. The national weather agency has warned vessels operating in the area of thunderstorms, strong winds and high seas.
