Storm Power Outages Affect Over 7,000 Residents in Orland Park, Illinois

Severe storms on July 27‑28, 2026 knocked out electricity for more than 7,000 Commonwealth Edison (ComEd) customers in Orland Park, Illinois. Village officials coordinated with ComEd to dispatch public‑works crews for damage assessment, debris removal, road reopening and clearing blocked storm drains. Several traffic signals remain inoperable, and drivers have been cautioned to treat them as four‑way stops.

The mayor’s office advised residents to avoid downed lines, use generators only outdoors, and monitor outage maps via ComEd’s app and the village’s OPAlert system. A cooling center at the Orland Park Police Department was opened for those without air‑conditioning or needing to charge medical equipment. In addition, the district reported heightened levels of West Nile virus in adult mosquitoes, prompting evening mosquito‑spraying operations and public health recommendations such as using insect repellent and eliminating standing water.

Restoration work is expected to continue through early August, with brush cleanup scheduled through August 5.
