Stormers sign winger Lleyton Davids to professional contract

The Stormers have signed winger Lleyton Davids to his first professional contract following a standout pre-season performance. Known as the ‘Robertson Express’, the 25-year-old athlete transitioned to professional rugby after scoring 31 tries in 19 matches for Robertson Town in Boland club rugby.

Davids, a former three-time South African senior triple jump champion who can run the 100m in 10.3 seconds, earned his opportunity after impressing during training and a United Rugby Championship warm-up match against the Bulls. Stormers director of rugby John Dobson described Davids as a talent the club intends to invest in, noting that while he requires time to adjust to the professional game, the franchise sees significant potential in his speed and agility.

The signing aligns with the Cape Town-based franchise's strategy of integrating emerging local talent into their squad for the upcoming United Rugby Championship season.
