Storms cause damage and power outages in Mantua and Gloucester County

Severe thunderstorms, heavy rain, and gusty winds caused significant damage across Mantua Township and Gloucester County in New Jersey. The storms resulted in downed trees and power lines, leading to widespread power outages. As of Tuesday morning, Atlantic City Electric reported 3,546 customers without power, while PSE&G and JCP&L reported scattered outages affecting under 1,000 customers each.

The weather conditions forced the closure of Mantua Public Schools and prompted local police to advise against travel within the township. Flooding was reported in the Williamstown section of Monroe Township, leading to the closure of Bridgeton Pike, Berkeley Road, and several side streets. In one instance, a tree struck a residence in Mantua, temporarily trapping two residents inside.

Other parts of New Jersey also experienced high winds, with gusts reaching 68 mph in Surf City and 55 mph in Beach Haven. Additional reports of fallen trees were noted in Egg Harbor Township, Marlboro, and Mountainside.
