Storms Disrupt Edmonton Summer Festivals, Organizers Brace for More

A series of intense summer storms across Edmonton has put outdoor festival organizers on high alert. Digital manager Megan Benoit of the Big Valley Jamboree said ticket sales remain strong for the July 30‑August 2 country music event in Camrose, headlined by Old Dominion, Riley Green and Keith Urban, but the crew is monitoring weather closely with a on‑site meteorologist.

Earlier in July, the city’s Taste of Edmonton festival suffered two sizable storms, and on July 18 officials evacuated several events—including the Great Outdoors Comedy Festival and the Neon Skies pop music festival—due to dangerous conditions. Organizers note past incidents, such as a 2009 storm that caused a stage collapse, underscoring the need for vigilant safety plans as the summer season continues.
