Storms trigger dozens of emergency interventions in Primorsko-goranska County

Severe storms, including heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gale-force winds, have triggered dozens of emergency interventions across the Primorsko-goranska County in Croatia. The Firefighting Community of the county reported 62 interventions over a 24-hour period, involving 18 different units.

Major damage included dozens of fallen trees blocking roads, vehicles, and buildings in areas such as Rijeka, Lovran, Matulji, and Viškovo. Flooding affected basements, boiler rooms, and underpasses in Čavle and Crikvenica. On the island of Rab, conditions were particularly intense, with 20 interventions involving roof repairs, clearing mud, and managing fallen telecommunications poles.

In addition to storm damage, firefighters responded to fires on Krk and Cres, as well as smoke incidents in Škrljevo and Omišalj. The Firefighting Community also highlighted the critical role of volunteer firefighters, noting that these individuals provide essential support alongside professional crews, often leaving their families and jobs to respond to such natural disasters.
