Stormwater management and flood prevention efforts

Efforts to manage stormwater and prevent flooding are being addressed through both technological solutions and large-scale infrastructure maintenance. In France, the Hydroway system offers a permeable paving solution designed to eliminate puddles and runoff. For 2026, installation costs are estimated between €75 and €140 per square meter, depending on surface area and complexity. The system utilizes patented technology and marble aggregates, with a lifespan exceeding 20 years if resin re-coating is performed every 5 to 8 years.

In Tunisia, the Ministry of Equipment is conducting extensive preventive maintenance to prepare for rainy seasons. Chokri Khlifi, director of the urban water service, reported that services have treated over 2,600 km of waterways and cleared 70 hectares of hydraulic basins between January and August 2026, reaching 70% of the annual goal. However, the effectiveness of these drainage networks is being challenged by urban pressure and the accumulation of illegal waste left by citizens.
