Story Bridge to close for three weeks in Brisbane

Brisbane’s Story Bridge is scheduled to close to traffic for three weeks during the summer peak, from December 27 to January 18. The closure is necessary to facilitate major resurfacing and maintenance works, including structural deck maintenance and waterproofing.

The project is part of the Brisbane City Council’s $110 million ‘Operation Smooth’ initiative, which aims to repair the city’s bitumen. The works will target the entire southern end of the overpass and portions of the northern approach. Other areas earmarked for resurfacing under this program include Albion, Eagle Farm, Hamilton, Ipswich, Logan, Lutwyche, Moggill, and Toowong.

Infrastructure chair Ryan Murphy acknowledged the disruption the closure will cause to drivers connecting Kangaroo Point, Fortitude Valley, and New Farm, noting that the investment is intended to provide a ‘smoother ride’ in the new year.
