Stourbridge fires ruled accidental due to agricultural machinery

Investigations by the West Midlands Fire Service and West Midlands Police have determined that two major fires in Stourbridge, which destroyed homes and property, were accidental. The fires began on August 13 near Racecourse Lane and Quarry Park Road/Worcester Lane. Investigators established that agricultural machinery was being used in the vicinity of both fields immediately before the fires were reported.

The rapid escalation of the flames, aided by extremely hot and dry conditions, resulted in the destruction of 19 homes and damage to an additional 18. The fires also affected approximately 500 hectares of land. Four individuals were injured during the incident. Chief Fire Officer Simon Tuhill confirmed the fires were not started deliberately, noting that the investigation aimed to provide clarity to the residents facing the task of rebuilding their lives.
