Stéphane Iganache sentenced to life for 2023 double murder

The Angers Assize Court has sentenced Stéphane Iganache to life imprisonment following a two-week manhunt in 2023. The 45-year-old inmate failed to return to the Argentan prison after a scheduled leave on June 20, 2023.

During his escape, Iganache was convicted of two murders. The first victim, 40-year-old Adélaïde Duplouy, was found strangled in her home in Angers. The second victim, retired mechanic Jean-Claude Havard, was found dead in Chailland with multiple wounds.

In addition to the life sentence, the court imposed a 22-year security period, meaning Iganache will not be eligible for release before 2048. The court also ordered a rare security detention, which requires a multidisciplinary commission to review his capacity for release annually after the initial period ends.
