Explosions Heard in Iran's Bandar Abbas Amid Rising US‑Iran Tensions

Iranian media reported a series of loud explosions in the southern city of Bandar Abbas and nearby locations on 13‑14 July. Four blasts were heard east of Bandar Abbas, seven in the city itself, two on Kish Island and additional detonations in Bushehr province. Authorities have not confirmed the cause, noting uncertainty whether the sounds resulted from an external attack or from Iran’s air‑defence systems intercepting hostile drones.

The incidents occurred as the United States intensified strikes against Iranian military facilities, citing the need to curb capabilities linked to the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. officials said the operations aim to keep the vital waterway open for international navigation. Iran’s official news agency Mehr reported the explosions but offered no details on casualties or damage. The flare‑up follows a broader escalation that has seen Iranian drone and missile attacks on Gulf states and U.S. retaliatory strikes, raising concerns about regional security and global energy markets.
