Strait of Messina Bridge project faces unresolved criticisms, says Green deputy
Angelo Bonelli, deputy of Alleanza Verdi e Sinistra and co‑spokesperson of Europa Verde, warned that the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport's (MIT) recent approval of the Strait of Messina Bridge is not a full green light. He cited the opinion of the Superior Council of Public Works, which was issued with numerous substantial observations that heavily condition the project's outcome.
Bonelli said the company behind the bridge, Società Stretto di Messina, has not yet refuted any of the environmental, seismic, structural or economic concerns raised. He called on MIT to publish the complete council opinion so the public can see the detailed criticisms, accusing the government of hiding the issues behind propaganda.
The deputy stressed that Italians have the right to know the truth about the bridge's feasibility and costs before any further steps are taken.
