Stranger Than Heaven reveals new map and combat details
Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and SEGA have revealed new gameplay details for their upcoming title, Stranger Than Heaven, during the Tokyo Game Show. The game introduces a unique map system where the protagonist, Makoto Daito, physically consults a paper map rather than using a traditional digital menu. These maps will evolve alongside the story, which spans a 50-year journey across five different eras and cities, including Kokura in 1915, Kure in 1929, and Osaka in 1943.
Recent updates to the combat system aim to increase the pace of encounters by adjusting enemy health. The gameplay also features high environmental interactivity, allowing players to destroy objects like furniture and shop interiors. A demo showcased at the event confirmed the game is running on PlayStation 5 hardware. While the title is not explicitly marketed as part of the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series, it features a new cast and setting. The game is slated for a January 2027 release.
