Strasbourg Eurométropole to fell 47 trees in Meinau

A prefectural decree has authorized the Eurométropole to fell 47 trees on Rue Schulmeister in the Meinau district of Strasbourg. The operation, scheduled for December, is part of an urban renewal program.

The decision, originally made in 2022, aims to restructure the area to accommodate a new cycling path. While the existing plane trees provide shade, the project intends to replace them with new species designed for better cooling effects and long-term urban planning. Former official Abdelkarim Ramdane noted that while the loss of current shade is regrettable, the new plantings are an investment in future urban amenities.
