Strasbourg installs traditional 30-meter Christmas tree

The traditional large Christmas tree has been erected at Place Kléber in Strasbourg. The tree, which is 90 years old, stands 30 meters tall and weighs approximately 9 tonnes. It was harvested on October 19 from a forest in the Vosges massif, specifically in Walscheid.

The installation, which was originally scheduled for last Friday, was delayed due to technical reasons and the current social movement context. To ensure a proper fit, the base of the trunk required specialized trimming. The tree is being held in place by cranes during the installation process.

Local officials and forestry experts noted that while the operation is a highly anticipated annual ritual for residents, it remains a high-stress task due to the fragility of the branches and the scale of the equipment required.
