Strasbourg municipal council to reorganize executive following deputy departure

The Strasbourg municipal council is set to reorganize its executive leadership following the departure of Pernelle Richardot, who was elected to the Senate. As a result, she can no longer serve as the deputy for commerce, attractiveness, and crafts.

Catherine Trautmann has proposed eliminating the position and reducing the total number of deputies to 19. Under the proposed redistribution, Mathieu Cahn will take over attractiveness and influence, while Paul Meyer will add commerce and crafts to his existing responsibilities in urbanism and sustainable development. Émilien Keller will manage the Neuhof, Ganzau, and Stockfeld neighborhoods.

The proposal has faced criticism from opposition members. Germain Mignot of the French Communist Party (PCF) criticized the last-minute nature of the changes and the concentration of responsibilities among a few deputies. Jean-Philippe Vetter of Les Républicains also expressed concerns, suggesting that the commerce and crafts sectors require a full-time deputy to be managed effectively.
