Strasbourg region imposes water‑use limits and extends permit for pesticide‑exceeding drinking water

The Bas‑Rhin prefecture has placed water‑use restrictions on parts of the Eurométropole de Strasbourg because of a drought. Restrictions, which vary by hydrographic basin, ban garden watering in towns such as Lingolsheim, Achenheim, Hangenbieten and Souffelweyersheim, while neighboring communes remain unaffected. The differing alert levels are explained by the fact that basin boundaries do not match municipal borders.

At the same time, the French state has renewed a three‑year decree allowing the southern Strasbourg water network to continue supplying drinking water that exceeds the legal pesticide limits for chloridazone metabolites. Officials say the water does not pose a health risk, but quarterly tests will be carried out and restrictions could be imposed if limits are repeatedly surpassed.
