Strategy moves $300 million in Bitcoin amid index eligibility concerns

Strategy (NASDAQ: MSTR) recently moved 3,568 Bitcoin, valued at approximately $300 million, out of its corporate wallets. The concentrated transfer has prompted investor scrutiny regarding whether the assets were sold, used as collateral, or simply moved between internal wallets. Because the company’s business model relies on large on-balance-sheet Bitcoin holdings, the purpose of this movement remains a key point of uncertainty for stakeholders.

Separately, the company faces a potential regulatory hurdle regarding its index eligibility. MSCI is conducting a consultation on whether to exclude “non-operating” companies from its indices based on new methodology involving operating assets and financial ratios. Simulations suggest Strategy could be subject to removal, which might trigger mechanical selling by index-tracking funds. While Strategy disputes the methodology and expects limited impact, the results of the MSCI consultation are expected by October 16.
