Strategy increases USD reserves to $4.65 billion amid Bitcoin sales

Strategy has significantly expanded its US dollar reserves, reaching an all-time high of $4.65 billion as of August 9, 2026. This increase, which represents a more than fivefold growth in 2.5 months, is part of a broader capital management strategy to provide liquidity for preferred stock dividends and debt interest obligations.

To bolster these reserves, the company has engaged in strategic Bitcoin sales. Between August 3 and August 9, Strategy sold 1,690 BTC for approximately $108.6 million. These proceeds were used to repurchase $109 million of its STRC variable-rate preferred stock. Despite these sales, the company remains a massive net buyer; CEO Phong Le reported that Strategy has purchased roughly 175,000 BTC since the start of the year while selling only about 7,000 BTC.

As of August 9, Strategy holds 840,447 BTC. The company's USD duration has also reached a record high of 2.7 years. While the departure from a strict “never sell” policy has drawn market scrutiny, management maintains that these moves are part of a “Digital Credit Capital Framework” designed to manage balance-sheet flexibility and meet dollar-denominated obligations. CEO Phong Le stated that the firm intends to resume Bitcoin accumulation later in the year.
