Stratford-on-Avon named UK’s top entrepreneurial hotspot

Stratford-on-Avon in the West Midlands has been identified as the United Kingdom’s top entrepreneurial hotspot. This finding comes from new research conducted by Development Economics on behalf of American Express.

The study analyzed 317 local authority areas across the UK, evaluating them based on two primary metrics: business start-up rates and business resilience. This dual approach measures both the creation of new businesses and their ability to be successfully sustained over time.

Following Stratford-on-Avon, Uttlesford in Essex ranked second, and Waverley in Surrey ranked third. The results suggest that some of the nation's strongest entrepreneurial communities are located outside of London and other major metropolitan cities. Other regional leaders identified include Darlington in the North East, Trafford in the North West, North Yorkshire in Yorkshire and the Humber, Derbyshire Dales in the East Midlands, Cotswold in the South West, Powys in Wales, Highland in Scotland, and Derry and Strabane in Northern Ireland.
