Strava opens research program for urban mobility data
Strava has opened applications for the third edition of its ‘Strava Metro for Academic Researchers’ program. The initiative provides researchers with one year of free access to aggregated and de-identified data regarding the movements of cyclists and pedestrians.
Designed to support studies in urban mobility, infrastructure, and active transport, the program allows for the analysis of travel patterns in both urban and rural settings. Selected participants will receive access to the platform, online training sessions, and support from the Strava Metro team. The program aims to foster collaboration between specialists in transportation, urban planning, environmental science, and public health.
According to Strava, more than 4,500 urban planners, public agencies, and infrastructure managers have already utilized the data to map routes and support road improvements. The company claims these partnerships have indirectly benefited approximately 1 billion people globally. Applications for the program are open until October 23.
